LucidBooks’ Thanks for Asking book review – Rating 9.1

LucidBooks Thanks for Asking by Mike Larsen
I received a request to do a review of Mike Larsen’s ‘ new book “Thanks for Asking: Equipping God’s People with Answers to Life’s Tough Questions“.  I was intrigued by this book as it hit on some of the points that we had during some open discussion times at our church. I was very pleased with how the author solidly used Scripture in these topics and conveyed truth in an easy to understand yet profound manner.

I would give this book a 9.1 out of my normal 10 point rating scale.  On a “5 star” scale that some websites use, I would give it a good 5-star rating.

In full disclosure, I was not required or requested by the author to write a positive review.
The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255: “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising.”

Many times, we as Christians are asked questions that sometimes are hard to answer. These often come from unbelievers, but can just as easily come from believers as well since we all wrestle at different points in our faith with questions as we grow in the Lord. One of the most common ones I hear is the infamous “If God is so powerful, or so big, why is there so much suffering in the world”. Sometimes, these questions can be very complex to answer, and how you answer may depend on who you are talking to and their attitude toward your beliefs.

Well, Lucid Books Publishing has a book for you! It’s Mike Larsen’s “Thanks for Asking”, which is an excellent book that covers many topics of those sometimes hard to answer questions. The author does a very nice job of breaking down these questions while providing solid Scriptural answers that are very relevant today. He presents them in an easy to understand manner that can help anyone who has struggled when someone asks these sometimes confusing that have blocked people from coming to the Lord.

Some of the topics covered are “why is there suffering in the world”, “why do bad things happen”, “why are there so many religions” along with topics such as what the Bible has to say about alcohol, dinosaurs, divorce, homosexuality and many more. The author points each one of these questions to the Bible to see what Scripture has to say about it and focuses us back to the Gospel and the importance of it.

This is the first book that I have reviewed from Lucid Books Publishing and Mike Larsen, but from what I have seen in this one, I am very impressed. I would highly recommend this book to any Christian to help them get a better understanding of how we can answer some of these difficult questions that can come up quite often in conversations.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my unbiased review and all opinions are my own.

My Favorite Part:

I really appreciated two parts of this book – first, the manner in which the author answered these questions was done in a way that made it very clear and easy to understand. Secondly, I always like it when authors cover topics and use solid exposition of the Scriptures and then give those Scriptures in their books, which this book did just that.  Very well done.

My Least Favorite Part:

If I had to pick one thing that was my least favorite, it would have to be that I was wanting more.  I really like how the author wrote his content and when I finished reading the book, I found that I was wanting more. Maybe he will come out with a second volume titled “Thanks for Asking, Again”. 🙂  I know I would read that one too!

I would highly recommend this book to anyone that has either struggled with or knows someone who has asked these difficult questions.
