Baker Book’s The Stage is Set book review – Rating 9.2

I had a great interest in getting my hands on a copy of “The Stage is Set” by Bryant Wright from Baker Books.  I have read some books on the end times and some reference Israel only because of where many of the events take place in Revelation.  I was greatly encouraged reading this book as it actually covered the people of Israel and God’s relationship with them!  Especially since I am going there in a very short time so I can see many of these locations mentioned in this book.  It really paints a new light on the End Times in my opinion.

I would give this book a 9.2 out of my normal 10 point rating scale.  On a “5 star” scale that some websites use, I would give it a 5 star rating.

QUICK SUMMARY:

The Stage Is Set: Israel, the End Times, and Christ’s Ultimate Victory” by Bryant Wright is a very good book to read if you are interested in learning about what is to come.  It is written very well and covers a many (not all) major events in the book of Revelation as well as covering Old Testament prophets where it pertains to the end times.  When I picked this up, I did actually have a hard time putting it down.  It is very engaging and even challenging as you read through the different topics that the author presents.  I sincerely appreciate how the author presented many views on some topics (like the timing of the rapture) rather than dogmatically hammering in his personal beliefs even though he does present what his personal belief is.  He leaves it up to the reader to decide for themselves.  I sincerely appreciate the fact that the author calls out the fact that so many have tried to “predict” who the antichrist is and when these things will take place (like the rapture or the second coming of Christ), but he sticks to the facts about how no man knows when this will happen.  As far as content, this book does not cover every single point of the end times like you would get in a commentary, but it does cover some of the major events that cause shifts in things happening.  Overall, this book is highly recommended for anyone wanting to understand more about the end times and what will happen.  I received a copy of this book in exchange for this review from Baker Books and all opinions are my own.

019510: The Stage Is Set: Israel, the End Times, and Christ"s Ultimate Victory The Stage Is Set: Israel, the End Times, and Christ’s Ultimate Victory
By Bryant Wright / Baker BooksWe live in a chaotic, challenging era. Has God lost control of his creation? Are the end times upon us? Offering hope to a fearful world, Wright explores what the Bible says about the antichrist, the future of Israel, Armageddon, and more to highlight the signs that point to Christ’s glorious appearing and millennial reign. 256 pages, softcover from Baker.

Physical Characteristics:
•Softcover
•240 pages
•Dimensions: 5.5 x 0.6 x 8.5 inches

Goal of Book:

The author’s goal seemed to be to pull in the Old Testament prophecies and tie them into the end times so we can see that the time is drawing so close to the return of Jesus.  I feel that the author did an excellent job laying this book out and tying it all together at a high level to explain future things.

My Favorite Part:

My favorite is from a personal perspective – mostly because I am going to be headed to Israel very soon and the thought of standing on the Mount of Olives (much like the author recalls) where Zechariah 14 speaks about the Mount being split in half and separated north from south.  The author relates this to a great earthquake and how that could possibly force the eastern gate to be opened after being sealed up for so long.  Then Jesus could then walk right into Jerusalem through the east gate as foretold in Ezekiel.

Recommendation:

This book is very engaging – while you may not completely agree with everything the author presents, it is a good overall view of the end times and how Israel plays into it.  Although it isn’t the most in-depth coverage of the end times, still I would recommend this book pretty highly.

Who Would Enjoy This Book:

Anyone that has an interest in the end times and prophecy will enjoy this book.  It is very well worth the read for sure!
