I like to read the “classics” when it comes to Christian literature. You may have seen my review of the “Knowing God” classic by J.I. Packer. A.W. Tozer is another one of my favorite authors for multiple reasons. I appreciate his background and then comes his writing style. He writes in a way that just seems to pierce the heart with his direct, yet honest style. “The Pursuit Of God” was written by A.W. Tozer in 1948 and was first published Christian Publications, Inc. and starting in 2015, it was published by Moody Publishers. Just like Packer’s book, this one truly is one of those “classics” that you hear about.
I would give this book a 9.4 out of my normal 10 point rating scale. On a “5 star” scale that some websites use, I would give it a 5 star rating.
In full disclosure, I was not required or requested by Moody Publishers to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255 http://www.access.gpo.gov/nara/cfr/waisidx_03/16cfr255_03.html : “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising.”
A.W. Tozer really does have a powerful way with presenting Scriptures in a convicting and personal way that I can really relate to. The Pursuit of God is no exception to this. It is full of text that will challenge you to go deeper in relationship with God. I think one of the most eye-opening chapters for me was the one entitled “The Blessedness of Possessing Nothing”. It really shines the light on having things, but not possessing them. Without possessing them, we can correctly have the Lord take his place and those “things” don’t get in the way. Just one amazingly enlightening portion out of many in this wonderful book. It’s a must read for every believer! I received a copy of this book in exchange for this review from Moody Publishers and all opinions are my own.

Goal of Book:
To me, it seems that the authors’ goal is to provide us with examples from Scripture that will help us to draw into a deeper relationship with God by having the correct perspective of His character.
My Favorite Part:
This entire book is full of nuggets of wisdom and practical application of the scriptures. One quote that I really like is on pages 110-111:
“The whole course of the life if upset by failure to put God where He belongs. We exalt ourselves instead of God and the curse follows.”
I honestly can recommend this book as a must-read for any believer that is interested in growing more close to God and have a deeper relationship with Him. I know that I will be referencing this book and re-reading it many times as it will be sitting in a very handy spot in my personal library.
Who Would Enjoy This Book:
I did not find this book to be hard to read at all. There were a couple of points that I did have to re-read once or twice just to make sure I understood, but overall never an issue. Despite it being written in 1948, this one is timeless and easy to read. Please get a copy of this book and let it guide you through Scripture examples that will draw you closer to God.
